50 Days of Prayer – Oregon Coast
Day 29
Electronics/Social Media
Galatians 5:1,16-17 “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.” … “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, how far our culture has come in our ability to communicate and be entertained electronically! We live in an amazing nation that allows freedom of speech. This can be both a blessing and a curse. For the blessing of being able to communicate and do incredible business electronically, we are grateful. But, for the doors we have opened that allow demonic influence, we repent. Father, some have allowed these blessings to become addictive, vehicles of violence, fantasy, and pornography. These tools which can be used for great good can be used for terrible harm: searing consciences, destroying hearts and sacred relationships in our families. In some, these tools have created isolation, fear, loneliness, and often deep darkness. Lord, we are grieved over the things people say or write on electronic devices that they would never say out loud, and for the bullying that is so harmful. We stand in the gap for those who take on an avatar and fantasy identity, and with this do unspeakable acts electronically. This is not who You created them to be. We ask for mercy, Lord. Bring our people to their senses. Draw them away from fantasy and into Your truth. Provide them a way of escape back to reality. Help us minister to and strengthen those who have come under this addictive bondage.
Most Americans, Christians and non-Christians, have been impacted by the electronic god of this age which often consumes our time, energy, and hope. Lord, forgive us for this idolatry that can take over time that could be spent with You or with each other. Lord, we know electronics can accomplish tremendous good: for the spread of the gospel and to help us be productive at work. Lord, take what the enemy has wrought into evil and turn and use it for good. We pray every person would become aware of the snare that electronics can be. Guard our hearts with diligence and self-control. Help us to use this tool with wisdom and purity, and to handle our most precious relationships face to face in love. Help our identity come from You.
Lord, we cry out to You, too, for a nation that has become under the influence of instant gratification. Forgive us and renew a right spirit within us.
Lord, I now examine my own heart, and ask that You would renew a right spirit within me. Forgive me for allowing the god of this age to consume me in these ways: ___________. I close the door on these strongholds in my life, now. Lord, give me a Christ-like ability to love my neighbor…as I love myself…Help me to love myself enough that I do not run to fantasy for false relationships. I desire to love those around me face to face, to value them as the person You created, and to communicate my heart with words that bring restoration and hope. Lord, help me to find those who are struggling with electronic addictions, ________(name them) to encourage a way of escape and Lord, if this is me, help me to turn my interest toward You. In Jesus Name
