Day 36

Addictions

Titus 2:12 “teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,”

1 Peter 5:10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

In the United States, the opioid epidemic kills 130 people each day and costs the U.S. economy $78 billion a year. There are now more people seeking treatment for opiate addiction than alcohol addiction. Eighty percent of people on heroin were on prescription pain killers. Although pain killer prescriptions are dropping, heroin use has climbed. An estimated 88,000 alcohol related deaths occurred during 2019.*

PRAYER:
Father, we humbly come before You to find help in time of trouble for people who struggle with drug and alcohol dependency. This is devastating for the addicted and for their families. We cry out asking You to bring a wave of deliverance that sets free those with addictions. Break this stronghold over my city, county, state. and nation. In Jesus’ Name, loose the bondage and bring freedom to the captives. Speak hope to the hopeless. Make them more than conquerors. Father, we lift up families and children who are caught up in this struggle with an addicted family member. Bind the spirit of anger, lying, chaos, suicide, and drama that often accompanies addictions. We ask for redemption and restoration of the addicted and their families. Heal their hearts. Help them learn to live in freedom. Draw them to Your throne of grace. Help us love these struggling people and their families and give us Divine boldness and love to facilitate getting them into treatment and safety. Lord, You are the Way, the Truth and the Life. You, Lord, are where their help comes from. We pray for a release of the gifts of Your Holy Spirit: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

We ask that You assist our federal, state and local law enforcement to ferret out drug trafficking. We beseech You, Lord, to break the power of the drug cartels which manufacture and ship drugs into our country. Give protection, wisdom and strength to our law enforcement who deal with drug interdiction. We pray that federal and state agencies would have wisdom and the policies in place to identify and eradicate prescription and illegal drug abuse.

Lord, I ask for healing in my own life from any kind of addiction that has held me in bondage. I ask for strength to seek the help and guidance I need for myself or my family. Give me courage to face these giants in my life. Heal my heart and make me whole. Lord, I have had people in my life who have hurt me emotionally (and possibly physically and sexually) when they have been “under the influence”. Name the hurts ____________. Now, Lord, I choose to let the pain of my past be healed. Give me the grace to forgive ______ (Name) for these wounds. What they did was wrong, but bitterness holds me in captivity. I forgive ________ (Name) for sins against me. Lord, I have hated myself in this situation. I ask You to forgive me for not honoring the gift of life which You have given me and for my self-hatred and shame. ________Thank you for healing me of self-hatred and shame. I invite You, Lord Jesus, to fill the place with Your peace which bitterness and wounding had occupied. Speak to me. I am Your child. (Listen). I thank You for freedom. In Jesus Name, Amen.
